When COVID Hit, Chet Faker Quietly Delivered A Silent Masterpiece
One of the artists that inspired us to start bubblingbox is Nick Murphy/Chet Faker. Nobody plays piano like him period, it’s like Obi-Wan Kenobi had a baby with Billy Joel and he came out melancholy and sad. For fans of his music, even though there is a dark side to the vocals, lyrics, and arrangements when you hear Nick start to play the piano it’s hard to stop smiling.
As the world was beginning to turn itself upside down, Music For Silence was delivered without the recognition the piece deserves. As revealed in a recent interview Nick has expressed that the album was part of his wellness and meditation as he dealt with some of the darker moments of his life, he hopes it will do the same for others.
Just like a G is supposed to, Nick had his piano shipped to upstate New York to compose most of the work in an abandoned church. This album is a way to get in touch with some of the losses we have all experienced this year, and yes, sometimes it’s ok to feel sad. Once you take time to explore those feelings then you can feel a reason for hope, we are glad Nick took the time to recognize that and to express himself beautifully on the piano-driven album. Nick says that if you feel something in your music and write to that, other people will feel something too and it’s absolutely true. Thank you Nick Murphy/Chet Faker for dropping another blessing when we needed it the most.
