We sadly lost a pop-culture icon this week with the unfortunate passing of actor/athlete powerhouse Tommy “Tiny” Lister. According to his manager Cindy Cowan, Lister had been experiencing COVID symptoms in the days leading up to his death. Lister was found dead in his Los Angeles home after someone initiated a welfare check.

This is a tragic event that has shocked the entertainment world as we have lost one of the brightest stars from our childhood memories. We know that Lister was a distinguished actor and athlete so we would like to share some links to the brighter moments of this great man’s life.

Lister was born on June 24, 1958,  to Tommy and Mildred Faye Lister in Compton, California. Since birth he had a deformed and detached retina in his right eye, causing permanent blindness.

Most of us will remember Tommy as the character “Dee-Bo” from the original Friday movie. The actor’s role in that film will forever be attached to pop culture in the ’90s. Most of the character was off-script with Dee-Bo manifesting the person we saw on screen from somewhere inside.

Tommy was known as a gentle giant, someone who did not reflect the characters the actor would bestow. Many around the man knew a softer side, that being said Lister was an athletic beast for like 30 years. It is sad to add his passing as one more thing that wasn’t awesome about 2020, but he will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
