Rza Breaks Down Kung-Fu Samples
One of our favorite producers in the hip-hop game is RZA. The beat-making genius is beyond myth or legend. In the ’80s, a big part of American culture was Saturday morning cartoons. Next to that was what happened on Sundays. On Sundays, most of America was blessed with the plentiful givings of Kung-Fu theatre.
Wu-Tang Clan took the sounds and vibes of those movies and combined them with rugged raps from New York. The sound broke the industry, what Wu-Tang was able to accomplish from that original sound was astonishing. The styles of Kung-Fu were the perfect complement to the styles of hip hop at the time. The trend would continue to lift the group upwards of 20 years. Recently RZA sat down with Vanity Fair to explain his connection to his most popular samples.
