Album Review – First Contact By The Lastlings
This album is absolutely exquisite in at least a thousand ways. The brother-sister band duo from the Gold Coast of Australia (Amy and Josh Dowdle) hit the kitty right in the nipple with their debut album First Contact. Who with a sibling wouldn’t be jelly of these two in the studio? I mean blasting out a gem like this with your little sister?
This is a dance album all the way through and keeps a great level of energy throughout. This is one of those pieces that ends before you know it and you’re lucky if your music player takes you to some more of the singles this talented duo has released. They’ve been on tour with Rufus Du Sol but this is the first complete album the two have produced. With such an honest approach to songwriting, the Lastlings give you a French kiss you won’t soon forget – and not just because your lips are still wet.
Our favorite song on this album is No Time, almost tied with Deja Vu. Amy Dowdle has such a wide range as a vocalist it makes sense that the duo didn’t require a feature, which is super fine with us. It’s amazing how she is able to take it so deep with every song but still remain focused on the direction of the album, which is to take your ass into a different dimension.
Check out this surreal video for the song Out Of Touch. The chemistry of any band is critical, I’m so glad these two have such a clear vision of what they want to convey and are fully supportive of each other in every piece of footage we’ve found.
