Fiona Apple Covers Van Etten’s “Love More”
Fiona Apple is one of the best alternative singers of all time. The singer was born in New York but spent a lot of time in Los Angeles growing up, which gives her a unique perspective on musical expression. Another OG in the industry, Sharon Van Etten, has just released a single from her newest project Epic Ten, which are re-imagined songs from her 2010 album Epic. Van Etten worked with Apple, along with Courtney Barnett, Vagabon, and Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief to complete the album.
Lenker penned this note to go along with the project:
“‘Love More’ and ‘Peace Signs’ are anthems for anyone who needs them. Like medicine in a cabinet for whenever experience may be enriched by them. But Sharon, as an autonomous creature and vessel and spirit changed my life by simply showing me kindness, and giving me time unquestioningly, without even knowing just how badly I needed it.”
Fiona delivers a masterful vocal performance over a slow drum melody. This is a great song for relaxing, thinking about how much you appreciate that special someone. Her voice is a gently falling leaf, tossing about with each change of breath. Apple really brought something special to the song.
