Jorja Smith Performs Entire EP “Be Right Back”
Jorja Smith got together with the folks over at Vevo to deliver an exhilarating performance of her third EP. The concert was directed by esteemed film director/producer Tash Tung. The Vevo production team manufactured a stage set that looked like red velvet cake. The colors, structures, and textures complemented the music beautifully. Everything dipped and whipped together tightly like a deep-fried ice cream drumstick.
The British singer is surrounded by a rich cast of musicians as she cycles through the song list. This is one of the best live performances we’ve seen, and it’s nice to see it done with an extended play. Often times an EP is used as a demo to shop for labels. Jorja actually worked on this project for two years and you can hear the passion of the work.
Be Right Back, self-described as a “waiting room” ahead of her sophomore album, features production and lyrics by long-time collaborators Joel Compass and Ed Thomas, as well as vocals by British-Nigerian rapper Shaybo. The charisma of Smith is captivating as she soaks the room with the blessings of her vocals. This is perfect, from beginning to end.
