Hermanos Gutiérrez: Two Guitars, Somewhere Else Entirely
Two guitars can suggest a whole landscape. Hermanos Gutiérrez have made that an inviting place to begin, and Sonido Cósmico gives the setting some additional company.
Released in 2024, the twelve-song record was the Ecuadorian-Swiss brothers’ second studio album for Easy Eye Sound. The label describes a wider arrangement palette around their interwoven guitar lines, including synthesizers, organ, light percussion and rhythms drawing on cumbia and salsa.
That is the detail we’d follow on this return visit: what happens around an established musical relationship when the arrangement opens outward? Listen for the additional parts, then notice how the guitars retain their conversation within that space.
Begin with the title track, “Low Sun” and “It’s All in Your Mind.” The last also has an official video directed by Robert Schober, offering a visual route into the album. The label’s release page links it directly.
The artwork makes its own introduction, placing the two brothers beneath bold lettering and an ornate graphic frame. It presents the partnership before the first track has begun.
This is a look back at Sonido Cósmico, rather than a claim that the catalogue has stopped there. Give the record a place in your weekend, then follow the brothers’ official pages onward. Some musical landscapes are worth visiting more than once.
