Durand Jones & The Indications: Give Them Their Flowers

Durand Jones & The Indications have called the album Flowers. A title with enough confidence to arrive carrying its own bouquet.

The 2025 record follows the group’s self-titled debut, American Love Call and Private Space. Dead Oceans describes its beginnings as a return to the feeling of the Bloomington basement where the musicians first found their connection.

That return came with experience. Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer and Blake Rhein had grown as musicians and pursued individual work, giving their reunion in the writing process more to draw upon. A familiar room can contain very different people a few years later.

For a three-song introduction, try “Been So Long,” “Paradise” and “Flower Moon.” Follow the voices and the arrangements, then take those songs back into the full record. The band’s history gives the music context, but you can arrive here without completing an entrance exam.

There is a generous idea behind returning to an early creative connection. You can bring the things you have learned elsewhere and see what happens when the people who know your musical instincts start answering back.

We’d give Flowers a place toward the end of the week, with enough time left to follow it into the earlier records. Let the group make the introduction. You can decide which song deserves another turn.
