Album Review – Lighter By Donna Missal
Album Review: Lighter By Donna Missal
Donna Missal is a very interesting artist. The way she came into her own is quite remarkable but to save some juicy bits for upcoming features, we will laboriously try to stick to the topic of her latest studio album. Lighter is a great sophomore album for the artist as she makes her way around the craft.
If we think of the projects Missal has done in terms of ice cream, her debut album This Time was like a smooth chocolate fudge brownie. In 2020 Donna went rocky-road with Lighter and there are plenty of marshmallows and walnuts smashed into the project.
The first single “How Does It Feel” is a great song to start out the album with a wonderful, surreal type of vibe that makes you feel like it’s time to cut the roof off your car.
Completely Natural
A great thing about this artist is that she is not shy of the camera but does not flaunt in front of it. It is quite refreshing to see the artist behind what our other senses are feeling in the most honest way. A lot of Donna’s videos are just raw footage, whoever made that decision really understood the charisma of the artist and we are glad they chose not to tamper with the goods.
Versatility Is The Key
Donna Missal is in possession of a very high level of music pedigree and vocal talent. The way the lyrics are being delivered is almost more important than the lyrics themselves. From song to song, this artist is able to transform herself, moment to moment, and change emotional content accordingly. The piece is a pleasure to listen to.
As before mentioned in reference to ice cream flavor, rock is the first ingredient. The crunchy texture of this artist is a sweet flavor for fans to enjoy. As you move through the songs of this project you really appreciate the songwriting of Missal. It is not an easy task to take yourself outside the box and create something that is not only appealing but also revealing.
Two Pinkies Up
Overall this is a really, really good album. We are glad to see an artist such as this developing so quickly and with such a colorful bloom. Lighter is a great second installment to appease a rapidly growing fanbase. Below is a great interview where the artist explains the creative process behind the work.
