Inside The Bubble: Exclusive Interview With Belau

Chetuno | May 20, 2021
Belau

One of the most intriguing bands we’ve ever come across is the European electronic duo known as Belau. This is a group that makes music that’s a non-stop festival of life. In a lustrous burst of imagination, the pair created a powerful album titled Colourwave. In the project, they got some amazing vocal talent involved. Belau teamed up with Sophie Barker, Amahla, and Sophie Lindinger to get the tingles going. We caught up with the group to ask a few questions about the project and what the future holds for the group.

The Band

Belau

Bubblingbox: How did you come up with the band name?

Belau: That is an old story that comes from our young ages. When we were kids we were really into geography and know all the capitals of the countries around the world by heart. We discovered Palau’s island which is a small country on the Pacific Ocean and somehow the name and the culture there remained an inspiration throughout the years. The inhabitants call Palau a different name: it’s Belau. Someday we gonna play there, I am sure about that.

Bubblingbox: Can you lay out the band members, who plays what?

Belau: Peter Kedves (production, songwriting, guitar) and Krisztian Buzas (lyrics, bass), in the live performances it’s a 4 piece band with Böbe Szécsi (vokál), and Benjamin Kiss (keys, sampling).

The Album

Belau

Bubblingbox: The collaborations of the Colourwave seem carefully calculated, tell us about your selection process?

Belau: We asked all the featured vocalists to take part in our journey, and we’re really glad that we have songs with these super talented artists. It’s also a concept that we always work with females. Writing songs with them was really different with all of them. We didn’t meet some of them, but we talked about Belau, the concept, and our thoughts before the creative process.

Bubblingbox: As you were releasing the album Colourwave the whole world shut down. What happened to your promotion tour?

Belau: We had to cancel our whole EU tour with almost 20 dates, hopefully, we can make the most of the shows in the next year. Some of our concerts will hold around 2021 autumn and most of them in 2022.

Bubblingbox: Will you be performing with the artists featured on the project, if not, who will be filling in those vocal spots?

Belau: We will perform our show with Böbe, but if we play in a city where one of the featured vocalists live, we will cooperate also on the stage.

The Future

Belau

Bubblingbox: We understand you have spent a lot of time and dedication on the Colourwave project, have you found time to work on anything new?

Belau: Yes, we’re currently working on our new album, the first singles will be out around autumn.

Bubblingbox: What are your short-term goals as a group?

Belau: Write the third album.

Bubblingbox: What new music have you been listening to?

Belau: At the moment CRO‘s new album, but always looking forward to new gems.

We would like to thank Belau for the interview. We look forward to the tour and the upcoming album. Look below to see Belau perform live and listen to the album.
