Inside The Bubble: Exclusive Interview With Tana

Tana

One of the best new compelling artists we’ve been listening to goes by the stage name Tana. Tana is a soulful artist with a ton of vocal ability. Tana recently released the single “Bad Habits (Keep It Coming)” that has us spinning. This song is featured on our radio station because of its sheer magnetism. The London singer is making a lot of waves in the industry so we wanted to take a deeper dive. We caught up with Tana to ask her about her single, and everything else. Read the interview below.

The Artist

Bubbling Box: Tell us a little bit about yourself, is Tana your first name?

Tana: Tana comes from my middle name, which is short for ‘Montana’. It just stuck around and was easy to remember.

Bubblingbox: Where are you from? Where’s home base?

Tana: I’m originally half Italian and half Nigerian, but I was born and raised in London, UK. I lived in Italy for a few months when I was little, but I’m a London girl at heart, it’s my culture. I pretty much grew up in North West London/Central London, and still reside there. It’s home.

Bubblingbox: How about your music background, when did you begin making music?

Tana: I started making music when I was 8. I began by playing the guitar, and eventually got into singing and writing when I was 12. I’ve always been around music from a very young age and wanted to play every single instrument I could find or had access to. My family is also quite creative and I studied music at school, so I guess that’s where my love for music started. It’s all I ever wanted to do.

Bubblingbox: The new single “Bad Habits (Keep on Coming)” is a powerful song, what inspired the record?

Tana: Thank you, I really appreciate it. ‘Bad Habits (Keep On Coming)’ is a song about holding on to bad traits and toxic tendencies from a previous relationship. This song is very personal as I speak from experience, and ultimately, I wanted to get rid of these bad habits and leave this chapter behind for good.

The Music

Bubblingbox: Does anyone help you put your music together? Who produces your music?

Tana: I write all of my music, but sometimes I’ll have another songwriter write with me if I have writers’ block or just want another set of ideas. I love working with others to bring my vision to life, but my go-to producer is Imad Salhi, who’s produced all of my latest tracks. He’s so talented at what he does and I love working with him.

Bubblingbox: Are you currently working on new music?

Tana: I have a bunch of new music in the works and I’ll be dropping something new very soon.

Bubblingbox: Where can people see you perform live?

Tana: I’m playing my first live show since lockdown, which is set for July 11th at Bar CMYK in Wimbledon.

What’s Next

Bubblingbox: Are there any musicians in your area you would like to work with?

Tana: I’d absolutely love to work with Jae5, Grades, and Jorja Smith.

Bubblingbox: What new music do you listen to the most?

Tana: Mariah The Scientist, Jae Stephens, and Jackson Wang.

Bubblingbox: Where are you going with your music career? What are your short-term goals?

Tana: I’m currently working towards my EP, which will be out late summer. But in the meantime, I’ve also got some exciting collaborations on the way, including a feature on a deep house track, and a co-write on Jike Junyi’s upcoming album.

Bubblingbox: What do you want your fans to know about you?

Tana: I want my fans to know that I place diversity at heart. I’d say my music is unapologetic, revolutionary, and liberating, and that’s exactly how I want people to feel after they’ve listened to my music.

We would like to thank Tana for giving us such a candid interview. We wish Tana and her team the best in all future endeavors.
