Shura Found a Way Forward in the Pages of a Notebook

A notebook is not especially glamorous. It does, however, have an excellent record of being around when an idea finally decides to show up.

For Shura, morning pages helped lead toward “Leonard Street,” part of her third album, I Got Too Sad for My Friends, released May 30, 2025, through Play It Again Sam. In Laura David’s interview for The Line of Best Fit, the artist discusses a creative restart involving producer Luke Smith, an influence from The Little Prince, and a broader instrumental palette. Cassandra Jenkins joins her on “Richardson.”

Those are the details that make us want to return. A new collaborator. A book. A practice that begins with writing before deciding whether anything written is useful. None sounds like an instruction to manufacture a hit. Together, they suggest ways to become curious again.
