BALTHVS: Your Next Psychedelic Detour
“Like Coconut Water,” “Mango Season,” “Sun & Moon.” The track list for BALTHVS’s Harvest is doing a persuasive job of relocating the afternoon.
The Colombian trio’s fourth album was recorded in La Mesa between August and September 2023 and released in 2024. According to the band, it was their first album composed by all three members: Balthazar Aguirre, Johanna Mercuriana and Santiago Lizcano.
That shared authorship is the detail worth keeping in view. When a trio opens the writing process to everyone, there are more instincts available before the first arrangement is settled. The band describes the tropical setting and a sense of abundance as part of the record’s creation.
For an introduction, use “Asha,” “Mango Season” and “Aguacero.” Follow the individual parts and the space they leave for one another; then hear how those selections sit among the ten tracks of the full album.
Aguirre and Lizcano mixed and produced the record, while Aguirre made its artwork. That gives this release a useful extra layer for anyone interested in how a band shapes the entire object, from the sessions to the sleeve.
This is a return to Harvest, one stop in a catalogue that has continued growing. Leave enough time to take another turn after it. A good musical detour can be allowed to become the afternoon.
