DOMi & JD BECK: Two Musicians, Plenty to Keep Up With
Two musicians can cause an unreasonable amount of activity. DOMi & JD BECK make a very good case for keeping your eyes on both of them.
Their 2022 debut, NOT TiGHT, arrived through Anderson .Paak’s APESHIT in partnership with Blue Note. The guests included Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Quite a visitor’s book.
The center of the story is still the partnership: DOMi’s keyboards and Beck’s drums. Blue Note’s original announcement points to the rhythmic shifts, harmonic complexity and humor that developed through their playing together. Technical ambition and silliness can happily share a rehearsal space.
For three ways in, try the instrumental “WHATUP,” “BOWLiNG” with Thundercat, and “MOON” with Hancock. Blue Note also links a live studio performance of “WHATUP,” offering a chance to watch the coordination rather than simply read about it.
This is an introduction through their debut, with a further chapter already available: Blue Note announced the second album, WHO ASKED?, for July 31, 2026, describing an expanded orchestral approach and vocals from both musicians.
That gives us a useful double bill. Meet the pair on NOT TiGHT, then move forward and see what they chose to do with more people in the room.
