The Memories That Give Jewelry Meaning
Leah fondly wears the ring she inherited from her maternal grandmother. Its gemstone reminds her of the hummingbirds her grandmother loved.

I’m wearing a ring that belonged to my maternal grandmother. I don’t think it was expensive. It is beautiful, though.
When the gemstone catches the light, it reminds me of the colorful feathers of the hummingbirds she loved. She put special bird feeders in her backyard so they would visit and she could watch them. That is the memory this ring brings back: her pleasure in those small, colorful visitors.
An inherited piece of jewelry becomes part of how we dress, but its meaning can be much more personal than its appearance suggests. Someone else might notice the stone. I remember my grandmother.
The ring doesn’t need to be expensive to be worth keeping, or saved for a special occasion to deserve wearing. It is special because she left it to me.
Jewelry can complete an outfit. This particular piece lets me carry a connection to her into every ordinary day.
What’s a piece you wear that carries someone with you? Or something you hope to pass on one day?
Remember that your love will always remain with whomever is lucky enough to receive it.
