The Monsters Have the Aux: Our Halloween Party Playlist

Chetuno | October 31, 2026
Halloween Party cover with a portable record player, jack-o-lantern, paper ghosts, autumn leaves and moonlight.

Somebody has put a skeleton in charge of the music. Honestly, the party could do worse.

Our Halloween Party playlist begins with Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s “Monster Mash,” Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” These are the familiar faces at the door. Nobody needs to explain the costume.

The current 50-video selection also makes space for “This Is Halloween,” Vic Mizzy’s “The Addams Family Theme” and Andrew Gold’s “Spooky, Scary Skeletons.” Elsewhere, Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me,” Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party” give the gathering a few more directions to wander.

Not every ghost needs the same entrance

There is a difference between a room singing a theme tune together and one person recognizing a favorite before everybody else. A good party has room for both. The Classics IV’s “Spooky,” The Specials’ “Ghost Town” and Whodini’s “Freaks Come Out at Night” are among the turns waiting beyond the opening run.

Start at the top if you want the sequence, or use YouTube’s playlist menu to jump to the song your costume has been waiting for. This is our seasonal party selection, rather than a ranking of the greatest Halloween recordings or a guarantee that every version suits every age group.

Tell us your essential addition in the comments. Bonus points for a suggestion that makes somebody say, “I forgot about that one!” Leah and I will be in the conversation. The plastic spiders can handle the decorations.
