John Talabot Steps Into the Open With a New OR Project

Music For Empty Stadiums arrives October 30, 2026 via AD 93.

John Talabot has spent years making dance music that knows how to keep a secret. Now he has opened another door. Under the new alias OR, the Barcelona producer will release Music For Empty Stadiums, his first solo project in more than a decade.

The title alone gets our attention. A stadium is usually built for noise, bodies and spectacle. Empty it out and you are left with scale, echo and the strange feeling of being alone somewhere designed for thousands. That tension sits at the center of what has been described as a euphoric, possible version of ambient music—material born from the isolation of the pandemic years, but not trapped there.

This is the kind of electronic release we enjoy following before it gets swallowed by the algorithm. Talabot has never made music that needs to announce every thought; his best work lets atmosphere do the talking. OR sounds positioned to stretch that instinct into something more spacious, more patient and perhaps a little more exposed.

We will be listening for the details: how rhythm enters, what kind of emotional weather the record carries, and whether those “empty stadiums” eventually feel lonely or liberating. Sometimes the room has to clear before you can actually hear the sound system.
