Not every record needs to kick the door down. Sometimes we want somebody to pull up a chair, tell us what actually happened, and remember to bring a melody. That is the invitation that puts aron! on our radar this weekend.

His debut album, Too Close for Running, is out now through Verve Records. The official release announcement describes a 12-track coming-of-age project rooted in college, a move to New York and the untidy business of falling in love. Jazz and pop meet in the sound he calls “cozy-pop.” Collaborators include dodie on “Call When You Can” and Mei Semones on “Macramé.”
One thought from aron! sticks with us: “the boring details are often what makes a relationship.” Now there is a songwriter paying attention. Love is not only the grand entrance; sometimes it is knowing how the other person takes their coffee.
Why we are making room for it
We are drawn to artists who treat everyday life as something worth examining. A little musical sophistication is lovely, but give it something human to hold on to and we are much more interested. For readers who enjoy songcraft, intimacy and a break from the constant demand to turn everything up, this is a discovery worth exploring.
