Haile Supreme’s Birthday Tradition Led Us to OASIS
A birthday can mean cake, a slightly chaotic group chat and a song released into the world. Haile Supreme chose the musical offering.
In the notes for “OASIS,” released May 10, 2024, he explains a six-year tradition of marking his birthday with a song or EP. He describes this particular entry through his affection for neo-soul and jazz harmony alongside Afro-Latin rhythm. The credits name Buci Buci as producer, Haile Supreme as writer, performer and mixer, and Matt Marvin as mastering engineer.
We like finding those details directly beside the music. They give the track an origin without requiring a grand mythology. Somebody made something, worked with other people to finish it, and offered it as a way of marking another year alive.
This is a catalog discovery, not a fresh-release alert. If “OASIS” catches you, his Bandcamp catalog offers further routes through EARTH TONES, “ELSEWHERE” and “DANJAHROUS.” Follow the individual credits as you go; collaborators are often the beginning of the next good discovery.
We spend plenty of time watching enormous releases arrive with enormous campaigns. There should also be room for a song with a personal ritual behind it. The listening can be intimate even when the link is available to the whole world.
