New York Fashion Week opened with a homecoming wrapped in color. On September 10, Henry Zankov unveiled his first Spring 2027 collection as Artistic Director of Diane von Furstenberg, bringing one of American fashion’s most recognizable houses back to the official schedule for the first time since 2017.
This is not a stranger walking into the archive. Zankov first joined DVF’s design team in 2014, years before launching his own label in 2020 and earning the CFDA’s 2024 American Emerging Designer of the Year Award. The first full collection found its energy in that connection. DVF’s wrap dress remained at the center, beginning with a leopard-print jersey version that nodded to the 1970s original without freezing it in time. A shirtdress tied to one of Diane’s most famous archival images came alive in vivid blocks of color, while bright trouser suits and clashing floral separates gave the room a little extra voltage.
