Jorja Smith Comes Home—and Gives Walsall the Spotlight

Some stages announce how far an artist has travelled. Others remind us where the journey started. Jorja Smith’s latest performance belongs to the second kind, and that is exactly why we want it on your screen.

Spotify has launched its Hometown concert-film series with Smith returning to Walsall in England’s West Midlands. Released September 23, the film documents an intimate hometown performance, with a set reaching from “Teenage Fantasy” to “Dancing.” The full performance is available through Spotify, rather than as a free-standing YouTube concert. We have followed Smith through the emotional closeness of Be Right Back and the restless release of “GO GO GO.” A homecoming offers another way into that story: less about collecting achievements, more about hearing a familiar voice in the place that helped shape it.
