Macklemore’s Removal Sparks Artist Walkouts From Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour

On September 15, Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga announced withdrawals from appearances with Sheeran following Macklemore’s removal. Their roles were different: Rowe and Lukas Graham were prospective replacements on the remaining U.S. dates, Beoga had been joining Sheeran during his set, and Finneas was scheduled for South America. The artists’ departures followed Sheeran’s September 15 response. He said removing Macklemore was the promoter’s decision and described efforts to find a resolution with venues, including conversations with Robert Kraft. Sheeran said his public silence on the conflict should not be mistaken for indifference, while explaining his preference to keep his performances outside political debate. Macklemore’s account

The controversy followed Macklemore’s September 4 and 5 appearances at MetLife Stadium, where he advocated for Palestine. In his subsequent statement, he said Sheeran told him Kraft had barred him from Gillette Stadium and organized pressure from other venue owners.

What Kraft and the promoter say

Kraft confirmed excluding Macklemore from Gillette Stadium’s September 25 and 26 concerts. His statement cited recent stage material and what he characterized as a history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery. He said the decision was about preventing hate speech, not denying Palestinian suffering or the right to advocate for Palestinians, and offered to meet Macklemore.

Messina Touring Group said objections from venues threatened the upcoming U.S. concerts and that Macklemore would no longer perform his remaining support dates.
