From the Inbox: MT Jones Opens JOY Into a Warmer, Wider Room

MT Jones is widening the doors of JOY. Released September 11, 2026 through EMDMM Ltd., the deluxe edition expands the British soul artist’s original 11-song album to 15 tracks, adding unplugged versions of “Why I Cry,” “Gentle Reminder” and “You Don’t Love Me Now,” alongside a reimagining of Paul McCartney’s “Coming Up.”
The details behind the record are just as inviting as the release-day headline. Supplied notes describe arrangements built around nylon-string guitar, layered vocals, bass and unconventional percussion. Jones stacks his own harmonies into vocal-string parts; Sam Rabbette contributes bass and nylon-string guitar; and Curtis Kelly shapes the rhythm without a conventional drum kit, using table strikes, congas, bongos and shakers. On paper, it is an approach built from touch, breath and the character of the room.
The original JOY made a measurable entrance in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 10 on the Official Albums Sales Chart, No. 9 in Album Downloads, No. 5 among Independent Albums and No. 2 on both the Record Store and Independent Breakers charts. The deluxe release arrives as Jones begins a U.S. run with an appearance at WXPN’s Free At Noon at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.
For us, the four additions promise a thoughtful kind of deluxe treatment: another angle on the songwriting and a closer view of the hands that shaped it. Step inside JOY and leave a little room for the quieter corners.
