Paolo Carzana Lets the Earth Into the Atelier
Paolo Carzana’s clothes look delicate, but they do not feel timid. Layers of plant-dyed fabric wrap, gather and drift around the body with the intimacy of something made by hand and meant to keep changing.
The Welsh designer established his London label in 2022 and has built it around an unusually firm material promise: fabrics, threads, dyes and buttons are derived from the earth, with synthetic materials rejected. Vegetables, flowers and spices help create a palette that feels weathered rather than manufactured.
Strength Inside Fragility
Carzana’s cutting turns softness into structure. Gauze-like layers, exposed ties and deconstructed tailoring appear vulnerable at first glance, yet the silhouettes hold their ground. His Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, Il Risotto, continues a practice in which craft, emotion and environmental responsibility are treated as one idea.
The clothes also resist the polished distance often attached to luxury. Their seams, wrinkles and hand-work remain visible. That honesty gives each look the feeling of an artifact from a future that has remembered how things are made.
Our Take
We love the quiet rebellion in Carzana’s work. Nothing needs to shout, because the material choices and construction already carry conviction. We are drawn to the balance of romance and resistance—the garments can look fragile while expressing a very durable point of view.
