Some tracks get finished. Some keep inviting their creator back for another look. ReyMod’s “Zoom” appears to have reserved a permanent seat at the workbench.
The Argentine electronic producer traces the original composition to 1995, when he was making music with trackers and the MOD format during the Amiga era. In correspondence with Bubbling Box, he describes the limitations of those tools as part of what shaped his creativity. “Zoom to Afterlight,” released October 16, 2026 according to the artist, is the latest chapter in a much longer relationship with one musical idea.
The supplied release artwork identifies this edition as the Radio Edit.
Rebuild it, then try another route
His account makes a useful distinction between two of the earlier versions. In 2013, he reconstructed the composition in MIDI and rebuilt its sounds. In 2014, he exported the original tracks through OpenMPT and mixed them in FL Studio, applying newer processing to the earlier musical material.
Those are different creative questions. What happens when you rebuild an old idea with a new set of sounds? And what happens when you keep the old material but change the way it is presented? Neither requires pretending that the earlier version was a mistake.
ReyMod returned again for “New Zoom” in 2019, alongside other interpretations including “Zoom City” and “Zoom City Tour.” He says he finished “Zoom to Afterlight” in 2025, then continued refining details before the official release this October.
Keep the idea, change the surroundings
The constant, he explains, is the original musical idea. The arrangements, production techniques and atmosphere keep changing around it. His description of the current direction brings together electronic, house and techno influences with a more cinematic, club-oriented approach and touches of science fiction and cyberpunk.
The artwork on his supplied release page gives that last thought a visual setting: pink light cuts between tall buildings, reflections stretch across the street and the city seems to be waiting for the evening to begin. Cover artwork is credited to ReyMod, who granted Bubbling Box editorial use for coverage of the release.
He has also assembled nine versions in a public SoundCloud playlist. That is the invitation here: follow an artist revisiting an idea across different tools and different years. You do not need to settle the argument about which version is definitive before exploring the others.
A track from 1995 has made it back to the workbench again. Fortunately for curious listeners, ReyMod has left the earlier doors open.
