Listen to Hive Mind With The Internet in the Conversation

We have a soft spot for the moment musicians stop promoting and start explaining how they work together.

The Internet’s Hive Mind arrived July 20, 2018. In the album’s accompanying interview, Syd connects the group’s renewed openness to the individual work its members pursued between records. Time apart could bring ideas back to the band rather than pulling it to pieces. That is a lovely subject for a record to send us thinking about.

There is a second route into the conversation: The Internet Presents: The Internet, the band’s Apple Music radio archive. Season 2, Episode 3 focuses on Hive Mind track by track. These are 2018 archive materials, not a newly announced reunion or album.

We would begin with “Come Over” and “Roll (Burbank Funk),” then follow the full record into the commentary. The music gets the first word; the explanation can add another layer afterward.

Our earlier introduction to The Internet is still there for anyone arriving fresh. This time, the invitation is to hear a band as a group of people sharing space and ideas. A good groove is wonderful. Learning a little about how people made it together is a pleasure of its own.
