Gavin Turek’s Diva Has More Than One Way to Dance
A good song does not have to wear the same outfit every time it goes out. Gavin Turek’s Diva of the People has a whole companion record to prove the possibilities.
The original album arrived September 6, 2024; the remix album followed in May 2025. Both are available through Turek’s own Bandcamp. On the original track list, you will find “Disco Boots,” “IOU,” “Back On the Market” and “Off the Wheel”—useful starting points for a proper catch-up.
We featured Turek back in Bubbling Box’s early days. This time, rather than writing another introduction, we are interested in the handoff: what happens when the songs become material for another producer’s imagination?
Pick a track on the original, then find its counterpart on the remix edition. Notice what stays recognizable and what changes the setting. Does the voice draw you in differently? Does a repeated detail become the focus? Those small comparisons can make listening feel active again without turning pleasure into an exam.
Our affection for dance music has never required pretending life is easy. Sometimes getting up is precisely the point. Put the two versions beside each other, and give the diva enough room to move.
